What the hell is Bigloo?
Bigloo is a rock band comprised of these four members:
Justin Smith ~ Guitar/Lead Vocals
Jason Welch ~ Bass
Paul Davis ~ Drums/Vocals
Dee Kinnett ~ Guitar/Vocals
Have they ever done anything I should know about?
Originally formed in 1996 in the north Texas town of Wichita Falls (mostly known for
tornadoes and homophobic preachers), the band survived several lineup changes and began
playing regionally throughout north and west Texas developing a loyal following everywhere
they stopped. Good Dogs Green Earth, the debut CD from Bigloo released
in 1998 (which has sold over 2,300 copies to date), showcased the songwriting talents of
the band and its honest, straight-ahead, blues-based sound, earning them even more
credibility. In 1999 and 2000 the band was honored to open for such acts as Ian Moore,
Vallejo, Steppenwolf, The Scabs (featuring Bob Schneider) and playing venues such as the
legendary Antones in Austin, Club Dada, The Curtain Club and Trees in Dallas.
Realizing that it was time to try and make an impact in a major music market, Kinnett,
Smith and Welch joined Davis (a long time Denton resident) in the Dallas metroplex area in
late 1999 and early 2000 to start pursuing long term goals.
Whats next?
Though the guys are proud of Good Dogs Green Earth, the bands
sound has changed over the last few years. With the addition of Paul Davis on drums in
1999, after what had previously been a revolving door at that position, the guys have
finally become a complete unit. As opposed to the jam-friendly, bluesy, roots driven style
of the first CD, you can expect to hear a more mature, song oriented sound with plenty of
melody and a pop sensibility when the follow-up is released sometime in the spring/early
summer of 2002. In the meantime get out and see the guys live! Check out the gig listings
on the home page.
UPDATE
Plans to enter the studio this summer to finish the bigloo follow
up CD were moved back to the Fall with the marriage of Paul (see
Pauls personal bio), but the wait should be well worth it. A well
respected and traveled journeyman musician / producer has tentatively
agreed to produce a five-song demo, which will be shopped to record
labels. As things progress well fill everyone in on who, where and
when. |
